Kos posted yesterday about a Sony DRM effort to prevent the downloading of songs from Sony CDs onto iPods. Yes, that's going on, but Sony's DRM efforts are way more evil than that. The computer nerd word for the day is "rootkit." A "rootkit" can conceal directories, files, logins, processes and logs from users and system administrators. Sony's DRM scheme for cds installs a rootkit on computers that cannot be eliminated by conventional means without reinstalling the operating system.

Lots of mouths continue to foam as a result of Chumley's inflammatory diary about Judge Scalito's dissent in Doe v. Groody.  Scalito's dissent is troubling but not for reasons of moral degeneracy. The moral degeneracy/pervert/sexual weirdo/pedophile comments seem to be coming from people who don't have any appreciation of the role of a court of appeals judge in a case like that one. I'll try to explain it.
